- Unscrew the radiator cap. This can only be done when the engine is cold. If the engine is hot, turn the cover to the first locking groove (using a rag) and wait until the steam is released.
- If antifreeze needs to be collected in the system, appropriate measures must be taken. When performing some work on the cooling system, it is not necessary to completely drain the coolant. For example, when removing a Soiero, a water hose or thermostat is sufficient if the coolant is drained to the height of the corresponding part.
- Set the heating control lever to the "Warm" position.
- Open the drain cock on the bottom of the radiator (gasoline engine) or unscrew the plug (diesel engine).
After draining the cooling system to the limits of the planned replacement of the coolant, it is necessary to flush the cooling system.
To do this, insert a water hose into the filler neck and run water through the cooling system until it flows out clean from the drain hole. To improve flushing, start the engine.
To fill the cooling system:
- Check the drain location again.
- Prepare an antifreeze mixture in accordance with the expected temperature, as a rule it consists of 50% antifreeze and 50% water.
- Slowly fill the cooling system to the bottom edge of the filler neck.
- Start the engine without tightening the radiator cap to allow all the air to escape. After this, screw on the radiator cap and start the engine again until normal operating temperature is reached, after which cool the engine again. After a few hours, check the cooling system again and, if necessary, add more antifreeze. On the outside of the cooling water block, both "Full" and "Tow" marks are visible, and the coolant should be between these two marks. Otherwise, you need to add coolant through the filler neck.
