Screw the drain plug into the gearbox housing.

Install the secondary shaft bearing outer race, correctly positioning it with the gaskets.

Using a hammer and punch, lightly tap around the perimeter of the ring until it seats in place.

Install the differential bearing ring and gaskets, ensuring that the numbers on the gaskets match the numbers on the removed components.

Install the primary shaft spring and shims (raised part).

Install the reverse gear lever shaft and spring.

Install the oil deflector.

Install the gear shift rod oil seal.

Insert the shift rod and install the shifter, making sure the spring pin is in the correct position.

Insert the tip of the shift rod through the right hole in the reverse linkage and lower the assembly into place so that the shift rod can be inserted.

Install the reverse gear shift spring and insert the shift rod through the spring at the end of the shift spring.

Install the shift lever onto the end of the shift rod.

Attach the selector to the gear shift rod with the spring pin.

Secure the selector guide plate with three bolts. The bolts are different, the bolt without a washer is installed in the upper right corner. The reverse gear spring must be installed around the rear bolt spacer.

Screw the lock bolt and washer onto the shift lever.

Install the gear lubrication funnel together with the secondary shaft bearing ring.

Install the input shaft seal with the open end facing up.

Install the input shaft bearing into the crankcase and tap it until it seats.

Place the magnet into the groove in the gearbox housing.

Install the differential into the gearbox housing.

Lubricate the inner lip of the differential seal with clean transmission oil and install the seal into the housing.

Install the spring onto the reverse gear lever shaft.

Install the shift fork assembly into the secondary shaft assembly. Be careful when installing and ensure the gears are properly engaged with the differential and input shaft. The shift fork assembly must be inserted into the corresponding bulge in the gearbox housing.

Gently pull the shift fork assembly slightly up and outward from the bulge using the tilt of the secondary shaft assembly. Insert the lever as far as it will go and rotate it 90° from the neutral position. Insert the ball into the end of the reverse gear lever shaft and rotate the lever to the neutral position. Carefully insert the lever into the bulge in the gearbox housing.

Place the spring pin on the shift fork side of the lever and tap it lightly.

Install the bellcrank assembly that connects the shift lever to the shift fork side lever.

Install a new O-ring on the crankshaft. Lubricate the crank arm with clean transmission oil and install it. Secure the lever with the locating spring pin.

Install the reverse gear shift linkage back into place. Install the 5th gear pinion and reverse gear rod into place with the groove on the rod facing outward. The hole in the gear shift rod must be aligned with the shift linkage.

Install the reverse idler gear and shaft. Position the gear correctly, insert the shaft with the shaft hole aligned with the edge of the gearbox housing.

On 5-speed transmission models, use RTV type sealant to install the oil passage on the transmission case.

Install the gearbox housing onto the differential case, carefully positioning it so that the input and output shafts fit into the bosses. It may be necessary to align the magnet with the slot in the top half of the crankcase.

Install the gearbox housing mounting bolts and tighten them crosswise to the specified torque.

Install the primary shift rod retaining bolt and sealing washer. It may be necessary to raise the output shaft to properly align the lock bolt. Tighten the bolt securely (5-speed gearbox).

Screw in the reverse gear intermediate shaft retaining bolt (5-speed gearbox).

Install the input shaft and tighten the lock nut by hand (5-speed gearbox).

Lubricate the input shaft bushing with clean transmission fluid and slide the bushing into place (5-speed gearbox).

Lubricate and install the 5th gear.

Install the 5th gear synchronizer ring.

Install the synchronizer and shift fork by aligning the tabs with the slots in the synchronizer ring and the fork retaining pin (5-speed gearbox).

Install the synchronizer limiter plate (5-speed gearbox).

Tighten the secondary shaft lock nut by hand (5-speed gearbox).

Tighten both lock nuts, and use a center punch and a hammer to drive the flanges of the nuts into the grooves of the shafts to prevent them from loosening (5-speed gearbox).

Apply sealant to the mating surface of the 5th gear housing, install it and secure it with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.

Install the drive shaft seals.

Install the reverse light switch.

Lightly lubricate the O-ring with clean gear oil and install it onto the speedometer drive gear assembly. Install the speedometer drive gear assembly.

Install the gearbox.
