The fuel filter should be changed according to the maintenance instructions, but it should be emptied of condensation if it is detected by the warning light.

The filter is located in the engine compartment. To drain the condensed water, loosen the bolts on the bottom of the filter housing and turn on the hand pump until at least 100 cm³ of fuel flows out with the water. Then tighten the bolts again. If fuel does not flow out, you need to remove the drain line from the fuel pump so that air can get into the filter.

To replace the filter, remove both hoses after marking the connections. Separate the plug from the bottom of the filter (water content indicator) and unscrew the pointer. Using a filter wrench, which is used for the oil filter, unscrew the filter element on the bottom side, as shown in Fig. 146.

wet the "O" sealing ring with diesel fuel and screw the filter element onto the filter base. Screw on the water level indicator and insert the plug. Now you need to remove air from the fuel system as follows:

  • Open the vent plug on the fuel filter (figure 147) and operate the hand pump until only air-free fuel begins to emerge from the threaded plug hole.

  • Press the pump pistons fully and tighten the screw plug.
  • Re-activate the hand pump if the pump pistons move with difficulty. This will put pressure on the lines between the filter and the fuel pump. The water level indicator can be controlled using an ohmmeter. To do this, it must be connected to both terminals. If the switch contact is removed, there should be an indication of current presence, and if the contact is inserted, there should be no indication.
