The drive to the overhead camshaft is accomplished via a belt drive and one drive gear each on the camshaft and crankshaft.
The oil and water pump are driven by a toothed belt. The crankshaft drive gear is located behind the crankshaft belt pulley. One of the adjusting tension rollers is used to tension the timing belt. The tension of the toothed belt is set by moving the tension roller. Under normal operating conditions, no additional belt tension is required. In a DOHC engine, both overhead camshafts are also driven by a toothed belt. The drive is the same as the standard engine, with the difference being that there is an additional drive gear for the second camshaft. In a diesel engine, the overhead camshafts are driven by a toothed belt, which drives the above-mentioned components and also the high-pressure fuel pump. The tension of the V-belt is carried out in the same way. If the belt is not damaged, it should have a long service life. It is important to note that the drive belt must be installed if the toothed belt is removed or replaced, or if the tension roller is removed. If the removed belt is to be used again, it must be kept away from oil and grease. It also cannot be bent too much, as this may cause fractures.
