The front and rear crankshaft rings must be replaced whenever the crankshaft, oil pump or O-ring flanges are removed. The front flange also serves as the oil pump housing. Both sealing rings can also be replaced with the engine installed. if the leak can be eliminated at this location. If you still need to remove the gearbox despite having a rear sealing ring, it is probably better to remove the engine. Sliding joints, for example, could lead to a leaky rear oil seal ring. If there is a front oil seal ring, the V-belt, protective cover, toothed belt and crankshaft belt pulley, as well as all other parts mounted in this place, are removed. To loosen the belt pulley bolts, engage the gear, pull the handbrake firmly and use a socket to loosen the bolts. If there is a rear oil seal ring, remove the transmission, clutch and flywheel before removing the ring. To replace the O-ring at the rear end, you can insert a screwdriver to remove it. It is important not to damage the flange or shaft. If the engine is removed, unscrew the intermediate plate and flange and knock out the seal (from the middle outwards). When removing the front sealing ring, do the same or remove the oil pump. When removing a flange or sealing ring, proceed as follows:
  • Removal flanges:

Lubricate the sealing ring along the working sealing edge and around the circumference and carefully press it into the flange, making sure to cut off the outer surface. Press the sealing ring into the rear flange and into the oil pump in the direction from the outside inwards.

Carefully place the flange with the seal inserted onto the crankshaft and center it well. Tighten the bolts evenly around the circumference. At the rear flange, the seal will protrude onto the sealing surface of the oil pan and the excess sealing material should be cut off with a sharp knife, as shown in the figure 104.

  • Installation of flanges:

Lubricate the appropriate sealing ring along the working sealing edge and place it over the crankshaft and into the hole in the flange or oil pump.

Place a suitable piece of pipe on the outer edge of the sealing ring and press the ring into the hole, ensuring that the sealing surface is cut off. In doing so, be careful not to damage the sealing ring.
