When completely disassembling the cylinder block, thoroughly clean and remove all foreign objects from the cavities and oil holes. Particular care must be taken to completely remove the cleaning liquid. If possible, dry with compressed air.

To measure the working clearance of the pistons, you need to measure the diameter of the pistons and record all the values. To determine the working clearance, you now need to measure the diameter of the cylinder bores, as described below. To help with the drawing 94 there is a diagram:

Figure 94. Measuring cylinder holes. Take measurements at depths 1, 2 and 3. Measure in guides X-X and YY.

  • Using a cylinder indicator, measure the diameter at a distance of 10 mm from the top edge of the hole and then at a distance of 10 mm from the bottom edge of the hole.
  • Additionally, take a measurement in the middle.
  • The above measurements are to be made in the longitudinal direction of the block (y and X direction), and after this, do it again in the transverse direction of the block at the same depth. Record all six results. The difference between the top and bottom measurements gives the narrowing. The difference between the longitudinal and transverse dimensions indicates the quality (radial runout). At no point should the diameter deviate from the nominal size by more than 0.15 mm. The excess data in Chapter 2.5.2 is given for different engines, and the block must be ground accordingly. The plane of the cylinder block is shown in the figure 95 method is checked for warping. The block is measured in longitudinal, transverse and diagonal directions. The inserted template cannot be thicker than 0.15 mm (0.10 mm for a diesel engine). For a gasoline engine, face grinding can be used to smooth the cylinder block surface. i.e. it is possible to grind down material thickness up to 0.20 mm. In a diesel engine this is not permitted and the cylinder block must be replaced if the distortion is more than 0.10 mm.
