1. The fluid level in the automatic transmission should be maintained at the desired level. Lack of fluid can cause slippage of the friction controls and loss of traction. Excess fluid can cause foaming, leakage, and damage to the transmission.
2. Before checking the fluid level, place the vehicle on a level surface. The engine must be idling and the gear selector must be in the "R".
3. Pull out the transmission dipstick - it is located under the eye brake cylinder (pic. 7.3). Measure the fluid level in the transmission and pay attention to its condition.
4. Wipe the dipstick and insert it back.
5. Pull out the dipstick again and check. that the fluid level is between the marks on the dipstick (fig 7.5). If the level is low, add fluid to the dipstick tube through a funnel.
6. Fill the transmission with the recommended type of fluid as follows. so that its level is between the marks on the dipstick. To increase the level from the lower mark to the upper mark, approximately 0.5 liters of fluid is required. Pour liquid in small portions and periodically check its level.
7. At the same time as checking the level, evaluate the condition of the transmission fluid. If the fluid is black or dark brown, or if it smells burnt, replace it (see paragraph 27). If you find it difficult to determine the condition of the liquid, take a fresh liquid and compare them by color and smell.
