2. Before starting work, make sure that you have everything you need for this (pic. 8.2) Prepare also plenty of rags or old newspapers to clean up spilled liquids.
Pic. 8.2. You will need these tools to change the engine oil and filter: 1. Capacity for draining oil - may be shallow, but wide enough; 2. Rubber gloves - when unscrewing the cork, the oil will not be put on your hands (gloves will protect you from burns); 3. Collar - sometimes the cork can be very tight, so the key collar must be long enough; 4. Socket head - with a size for a cork; 5. Belt or chain wrench - for unscrewing the filter; 6. Adapter for unscrewing the filter with a faceted base (there are different adapters for each type of filter)
3. To facilitate the work, it is advisable to raise the car or install it on a viewing hole (overpass).
Attention! Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
4. If you are changing the fluid for the first time, think in advance where you will put the drain plug and oil filter. Keep in mind that the engine and exhaust system will be hot during operation - think about how to properly organize the work so as not to get burned.
5. Park the vehicle on level ground. Start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature. Hot oil drains faster and flushes deposits better. When the engine warms up, stop it. Remove the oil filler cap from the valve cover,
6. Raise the vehicle and secure it in the raised position.
Attention! Do not climb under the car until it is supported only by the jack. The jack supplied with your vehicle is for changing wheels only. If you need to climb under the car, install special stable supports under it.
7. Place a suitable container under the drain plug of the engine pan and unscrew the plug (Figure B.7). If the engine is hot, wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the oil as it flows.
8. Let the used oil drain into a container. As the pressure of the oil jet decreases, the container may need to be moved. Feel the drained oil for the presence of metal particles and chips in it
9. After all the oil has drained, wipe the drain plug with a clean rag. Even a few metal particles remaining on the cork will immediately spoil the newer oil.
10. Wipe clean around the drain hole, screw in the plug and tighten it securely.
11. Move the used oil container under the filter.
12. Loosen the filter with a suitable wrench for this type (pic. 8.12). then unscrew the filter by hand. As soon as the filter comes off the threads, immediately turn it with the hole up so that the oil does not spill out of the filter.
Attention! Be careful - the exhaust system remains hot.
13. Wipe the surface of the cylinder block mating with the filter with a clean cloth. If any old oil remains on the block, the block will begin to smoke when it warms up. Also check to see if there is a gasket dried to it from the old filter on the block. If necessary, scrape it off with a plastic scraper.
14. Compare the new filter with the old one and make sure it is the same type and size. Moisten the gasket of the new filter with clean engine oil and screw the filter into place (fig 9.14). Tighten the filter by hand only, do not use any tools, as overtightening may damage the filter seal. Screw in the filter until it contacts the block, then tighten it three-quarters of a turn.
15. Remove all tools, waste oil container and rags from under the vehicle, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
16. Fill the engine with three liters of oil. Wait a few minutes for the oil to drain into the sump, then check its level with a dipstick. If the level is close to the top, wrap the oil filler cap, start the engine.
17. Let the engine run for about a minute. At this time, inspect the disturbed places - the drain plug and filter and make sure that oil does not flow from under them. If there is a leak, stop the engine and tighten the plug or filter.
10. Wait a few minutes for the oil to drain into the sump and check the level again. If necessary, add the required amount of oil so that its level reaches the top mark on the dipstick.
19. On the first trips after an oil change, check for leaks frequently and check the oil level.
20. Used oil cannot be used in this state - it must be disposed of or transferred for recovery. Do not dump oil on the ground or down the drain.
