Attention! Allow the engine to cool before starting this operation.
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning. If your car has an anti-theft audio system, make sure you have the unlock code before disconnecting the battery.
2. Moisten the manifold fasteners with low viscosity oil and allow it to penetrate the threads.
3. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors on the front and back.
4. Disconnect the gas recirculation pipe at the rear manifold and from the cylinder head (see chapter 6).
5. Loosen the nuts securing the downpipe to the front and rear manifolds and lower the downpipe (pic. 9.5).
6. Turn out bolts and remove thermal screens from each collector (pic. 9.6).
7. Turn away bots and nuts of fastening of collectors to a head of cylinders and remove them from hairpins (pic. 9.7).
8. Inspect manifolds and fasteners for cracks, warping, or other damage.
Installation
9. Scrape off the remnants of old ducts and soot from the mating surfaces of the manifolds and cylinder heads. If the old gasket allowed exhaust gases to pass through, check the flatness of the manifold mounting surface. To do this, place a steel ruler on edge on the surface of the collector and try to insert the probe between the surface and the ruler. Slight warping can be eliminated by machining the manifold.
10. Put on hairpins of heads of cylinders new linings.
11. Install the manifolds and screw the nuts into place.
12. Gradually, in three or four passes, tighten the fasteners to the required torque in sequence from the middle to the ends of the manifold.
13. Establish other details in sequence, return to their removal. At connection of a reception pipe to collectors replace linings.
14. Start the engine and check for gas leaks.
