1. Idling is the mode of operation of the engine when the accelerator pedal is released, for example, when stopping at a traffic light. Idle speed, as well as the operation of many engine systems, depends on its condition.
2. Apply the parking brake and place the manual transmission in neutral or set the selector to "parking" in an automatic box. Turn off all power consumers (lights, fans, heaters, etc.).
3. Start the engine, warm it up to operating temperature and shut it off.
4. Connect a tachometer to the engine in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
5. Remove the jumper from the SPOUT connector or bridge the TEN and GND pins in the data connector (details see paragraph 23).
6. Start the engine and determine the idle speed on the tachometer. Compare the value obtained with that indicated in the Technical Data or on the VECI plate under the hood.
Note. If the idle speeds specified in Technical data and on the VECI plate do not match, take the value from the VECI plate as true.
7. If the idle speed requires adjustment, turn the idle speed adjusting screw until the desired value is obtained (pic. 22.7). Turn the screw gradually, no more than a quarter of a turn at a time, allowing the turns to stabilize for at least a minute. Adjust the idle speed only when the cooling fan is not spinning.
8. Check ignition timing (see paragraph 23), adjust it if necessary and recheck the idle speed.
