Caution: If your vehicle's audio system is equipped with a theft deterrent, make sure you have the unlock code before disconnecting the battery.
2. Drain the cooling system (see chapter 1). If the coolant is fresh, save it for reuse.
3. Remove the accessory drive belts.
4. On a 4-cylinder model, remove the power steering pump mounting bolts and move the pump to the side without disconnecting the hoses from it.
5. Remove the water pump pulley, timing belt covers and the timing belt itself (see chapter 2A or 2B).
6. Loosen the water pump mounting bolts (figure 7.6, a-c) and remove it from the engine. If the pump cannot be removed, carefully; you can tap it with a wooden mallet to knock off the dried gasket.

7. Clean bolts and threaded holes from corrosion and sealant residue.
8. Clean all mating surfaces from seal residues.
9. Compare the new pump with the old one to ensure they are identical.
10. Apply a thin coat of RIV sealant to the new gasket and install it on the pump.
11. Carefully install the pump onto the engine.
12. Screw in and tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specified torque. Do not overtighten the bolts to avoid damaging the pump.
13. Install all parts removed earlier to access the pump.
14. Fill the cooling system (see chapter 1) and check the tension of the camshaft drive belt (see chapter 2A or 2B). Start the engine and check for leaks.
